Perado (Ilex Perado)

Shrub 1 to 2.50 meters tall, with thick leaves, mucronate or spiny at the top, generally spiny-serrated on the margins; 1-flowered peduncles, rarely 2-3-flowered. It is a rare species that only appears in Ribeiro Frio, in the mountains of S. Vicente, Seixal, and Boa Ventura. The wood of this Aquifoliaceae is white, light, and suitable for good polishing, used in inlays and other small carpentry works, after boiling in two or three waters to remove all the sap. It can turn bluish if immersed in urine or any ammoniacal solution.
