Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) / Pepineiro (Cucumis sativus)

A Cucurbitacea widely cultivated in Madeira. Its fruits are a refreshing food and are used to prepare an ointment that is useful in treating wounds. The cucumber is sown in March and April, and in some parts from January to May. The sowing is done in blankets or homemade containers, and when the plants reach a certain size, canes or any other supports are built so that the stems do not crawl on the ground.
