Yellowish tuff that appears in various parts of Madeira. When reduced to powder, it is very light, and therefore easily carried away by the rains. Associated with clay, it constitutes, according to Bowdich, an excellent soil for vineyards. The specific weight of the soft stone is, according to the same author, 1.95.
