Ouriços do Mar

About ten species of these echinoderms have been identified in Madeira, two of which – the Echinus lividus and the E. brevispinosus – live abundantly in the pools near the coast, although they are not used as food. The Diadema europaeum, purplish-dark and adorned with long spines, and the small Echinocyamus pusillus also appear in some locations.
