Oliveira (Dr. António Rodrigues de)
He was a native of Portugal, but resided for many years on this island while performing various public service commissions. He arrived as a magistrate, taking office on October 4, 1790. He later held the positions of inspector of tobacco and soap factories, and conservator of the British registry office. He also served as an agriculture inspector and, as such, left agricultural instructions in the Calheta chamber, which were a valuable work for the time and can still be read with interest today. Several works and documents contain commendable references to these instructions.
