Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Capelas de)
In the parish of Campanário, a chapel of this invocation was founded in 1748 by the morgado António Leandro da Câmara Leme. The endowment deed is from July 18, 1734, but it was only inspected fourteen years later, so that the acts of worship could be celebrated there.
On the right bank of the Santa Luzia stream, in the place called Fundoa and within the area of the parish of São Roque, there is a chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which was built by João da Paz de Castro in the year 1668, and with the same invocation, Matias de Mendonça e Vasconcelos erected a chapel in the parish of Machico, in the year 1660.
In the parish of Santa Cruz, there was a chapel with the patronage of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, but we know nothing about its founder and the year of its construction.
The chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in the Vargem, in the parish of São Vicente, is not of small dimensions. The original chapel, instituted by José Caldeira, has undergone several modifications and additions. The parish priest usually resides near this chapel and there he performs the functions of religious worship.
There was a chapel of the same invocation in the parish of São Jorge, founded in the last quarter of the 17th century by Father Matias Jorge Jardim, and it was located in the place of Ilha.
