Arciprestados

The Diocese of Funchal was divided a few years ago into four archpriesthoods or groups of parishes, for the purpose of its ecclesiastical administration. They are: Funchal, which includes the parishes of the municipalities of Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava, and Porto Santo; Calheta, comprising the parishes of the municipalities of Calheta and Ponta do Sol; Santa Cruz, composed of the parishes of the municipalities of Santa Cruz and Machico; and São Jorge, comprising the parishes of the municipalities of Santana, São Vicente, and Porto do Moniz. The position of archpriest is appointed by the bishop and held by one of the parish priests of the archpriesthood.
