Norton de Matos (General)
General Norton de Matos, High Commissioner of the Republic in Angola, made a stop in Funchal on April 3, 1921, aboard the Moçambique, where he was greeted on board by the Civil Governor, Military Commander, Secretary General, etc. After disembarking, he joined the procession of the Unknown Soldier, and then traveled by special train to Terreiro da Luta, where he was offered a lunch by the deputy captain Américo Olavo de Azevedo, attended also by the Civil Governor and other individuals.
The return was made in carriages from Monte, and the industrialist Henrique Hinton offered a tea at his residence to all the guests. The embarkation took place around half past four, and on that occasion, military honors were rendered to General Norton de Matos by an infantry force, under the command of a captain (1921).
