Loquat Tree (Eriobotrya japonica) / Nespereira (Eriobotrya japonica)
A tree from the Rosaceae family, introduced to Madeira in 1846 or 1847 and now very common in the cultivated region of the island. It bears fruit from February to June and originates from Japan. In some places, the Mespilus germanica, also known as the loquat tree, still appears, and its fleshy and sour fruits become sweet and tasty when ripe.
