Bats / Morcegos
Mammals of the order Chiroptera, of which two species are known in the archipelago: the Vesperugo madeirensis, found in Madeira and the Canaries, and the V. maurus, a European species. Bats are insect-eating animals that only appear at night, spending the days hidden in dark places, suspended by their hind limbs. The Vesperugo maurus is a larger and more robust animal than the M. madeirensis, as can be seen from the specimens that exist in the Seminary Museum.
