Aragonite

Calcium carbonate; rhombic system. It is found on the basalts in Madeira and Porto Santo. In Madeira, it is found in various forms: in geodes, in transparent hemitrope crystals, similar to hexagonal prisms but with the angles between the faces of the prisms being reentrant, in groups of crystals in the form of needles (acicular form), etc.
