Meneses (Pedro Fagundes Bacelar de Antas e)

This Governor and Captain-General of Madeira was appointed to this position on March 4, 1807, and took office on August 5 of the same year.

Five months after his arrival in Funchal, the island was occupied for the second time by British troops, who arrived here at the end of December 1807 and only left Madeira in October 1814

(See Occupation of Madeira by British troops).

In May 1813, Pedro Fagundes suffered a stroke, making it impossible for him to continue leading the government. He withdrew to the Kingdom's mainland and died in Lisbon on November 1, 1813. He was still in Funchal when his successor, Luís Beltrão de Gouveia, arrived on August 7 of that year.
