Melo (D. Rodrigo António de)

His appointment as Governor and Captain-General of the Madeiran archipelago is from June 1821, having taken office on July 2 of the same year. He was dismissed, at his request, by royal letter of March 22, 1822, but only left the government after the arrival and inauguration of his successor António Manuel de Noronha, on April 22, 1822. It was he who presided over the ceremony, on January 28, 1822, of the laying of the first stone of the Constitution monument, which was highly solemn.
