This family name, according to Dr. Alvaro R. de Azevedo, became linked to the Camaras and Noronhas through the marriage of D. Felipa de Noronha, the second daughter of João Gonçalves da Câmara, the second lord of Funchal, with Henrique Henriques, lord of Alcáçovas, son of D. Fernando Henriques and D. Branca de Mello.
