Medina e Vasconcelos (Cónego Dr. Gregório Nazianzeno)

He was born in Funchal in 1787 and died in this city on April 23, 1858. He was a bachelor of laws from the University of Coimbra and a canon of the Funchal Cathedral, having practiced law with remarkable success. He held various positions, such as judge of the British registry, procurator to the General Assembly, and vicar general of the diocese. He was a brilliant journalist and a deputy for Madeira in the legislative session of 1837 to 1838. He enjoyed great prestige and influence due to his extraordinary erudition and remarkable character. He was the brother of the poet Medina e Vasconcelos, author of the "Zargueida".
