Mascarenhas (Manuel de Sousa)

He was appointed Governor and Captain-General of Madeira on February 27, 1645, and took office on April 11 of the same year. He was imprisoned by his successor Manuel Lôbo da Silva, following an order from the mainland government, as Manuel de Sousa Mascarenhas was accused of serious abuses in the exercise of the Governorship of this archipelago.
