Andrade (Manuel Dias de)

He was born around 1585, the son of Francisco de Andrade and D. Constança de Atouguia. He was the second and third grandson of Fernão Dias de Andrade and Diogo Fernandes de Andrade, whom we refer to in the article Andrade. He distinguished himself notably as a military man, having participated in the restoration of the Bay, where he commanded a galleon. He engaged in other battles, demonstrating his valor. He was a commander of the Order of Christ and held the position of field master in Brazil. He died in 1638 on the Islands of Cabo Verde, while on his way as a field master of a fleet destined for the restoration of Pernambuco.
