Madre de Deus (Frei Francisco da)
He professed in the Seraphic Order in 1613 and was the guardian of the Franciscan convent in the town of Santa Cruz. Some consider him to be from Madeira, but there is no certainty that he was born on this island. He was a man of vast erudition, having written a mystical book notable for the beauty of its language. (See Bib. Lusit. II-165).
