Macela (Anthemis nobilis)
A widely cultivated composite in Camacha and other parts of Madeira. The infusion of its flower heads is stimulating and tonic, and can be used externally to combat certain eye inflammations. The typical form is not found in Madeira, but the golden variety is. The macela used in Madalena and Fajã da Ovelha is the Achillea Ageratum, a plant also belonging to the Composite family.
