Maçaroco (Echium nervosum)

Shrub of the Boraginaceae family, common in the vicinity of the coast, on the south coast of Madeira. It can reach 2 meters in height, and has blue flowers arranged in ovate panicles, generally dense. It produces black wood that was formerly used for inlays. Echium candicans is a shrub of 5 to 15 decimeters and is easily distinguished from E. nervosum by its elongated and more or less cylindrical panicles.
