Louro-Cerejo (Prunus Laurocerasus)

A small tree or shrub of the Rosaceae family, cultivated in Camacha, Monte, Choupana, etc. It is native to Persia and is recognized by its large, obovate-elliptic, serrated leaves, with a bitter almond scent when crushed between the fingers. The essential oil and distilled water of louro-cerejo contain prussic acid. Louro-cerejo is also known in Madeira by the name of English laurel.
