Lombo do Doutor

A populated place in the parish of Calheta. It was named by Doctor Pedro Berenguer de Lemilhana, who established an entailed estate there. He was a native of Spain and a nobleman of the royal household. In this place, there existed the chapel of Jesus-Maria-José, founded in 1708 by João de Andrade Berenguer Neto, a descendant of Doctor Pedro Berenguer. There was also the chapel of Santa Catarina in this place, built by Rodrigo Enes in the year 1505. In this place is the well-known location of Vale da Bica.
