Elaphoglossum Squamosum / Língua Cervina
The fern that the Madeirans call by this name is the Elaphoglossum squamosum, characterized by elongated leaves covered with rusty or almost black scales. This species lives in Porto da Cruz, Boa Ventura, Lamaceiros, etc., and is widely used in Madeira as a bronchial medicine. The fern known in Portugal by the name of 'língua cervina' is the Scolopendrium vulgare, a species that is also found in Madeira, but is quite rare.
