Lavradores (Largo or Praça dos) / Lavradores (Largo ou Praça dos)

This square is located on the left bank of the João Gomes stream, at the end of the streets Infância and Oudinot that flow into it. It also provides access to the Hospital Velho street. In this square, a fair was held every Saturday for the sale of pine poles and chestnut stakes used in the trellises known in Madeira as 'corredores'. This square is also the main entrance to the city's large market known as Mercado dos Lavradores, inaugurated in 1939.
