Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) / Lavadeira (Motacila boarula)

A bird of the Motacillidae family, very common in Madeira, where it frequents the streams, streets, and rooftops of buildings, etc. It is easily recognized by the yellow color of its chest and the movement of its slightly long tail.

It lays 4 to 5 eggs and builds its nest on rooftops and in wall cavities, using roots, grass leaves, etc.

Also known by the name 'lavandeiral,' and in Porto da Cruz, it is sometimes called 'papa-moscas.'

The 'lavadeira de fora,' which spends the winter in Madeira and is common in Porto Santo, is the Motacilla alba.
