Ameixieira de espinho (Berberis maderensis)
Shrub of the Berberidaceae family, 1 m to 1.5m tall, with 3-part thorns and fasciculate, subspatulate or subovate leaves, entire or serrated-thorny; yellow flowers, gathered in clusters. It has only been found recently in the Serra dos Balcões. The wood of this shrub, called fustete, has a beautiful yellow color and is highly valued in carpentry, especially for inlays.
