João de Deus (Método de)

On September 1, 1879, the Count of Carvalhal, president of the Municipal Council of Funchal, sent a letter to Dr. João de Deus, presenting to him Professor Teodoro João Henriques, who was tasked by the same Council to study the new reading teaching method for children, organized by that distinguished poet and zealous apostle of popular education. Professor Henriques spent several months in Lisbon, and upon his return to Madeira, he disseminated the teaching method he had learned from the illustrious author of the Cartilha Maternal among the public and private teaching staff.
