History

Alvares da Silva (Tenente Luiz)

This Madeiran was part of the military garrison of our colony of Timor, when on December 24, 1912, the indigenous people revolted against the Portuguese authorities, and invading the fortified post of Manufai, they murdered our compatriot, the chief of the same post, who, abandoned by the force of his command, could not offer serious resistance to the attack of the rebels. The brave officer was a victim of fulfilling his duty and the desire to honor the Portuguese name in such distant lands.
