Importações e Exportações
The island of Madeira imports cereals, wool, linen, and cotton fabrics, olive oil, petroleum, salt, sulfur, grocery and tavern items, barrels, chemical fertilizers, crockery, glassware, tobacco, mechanical equipment, cutlery, etc., and exports wine, sugar, embroidery, wickerwork, butter, eggs, onions, fruits, etc. It re-exports coal.
The values of imports, exports, and re-exports by the Customs of Funchal in the year 1908 were 201,200,000, 75,000,000, and 121,500,000, respectively.
An important item in the imports is that of coal, a product especially intended for the supply of steamships frequenting our port. In the year 1908, 167,682,031 tons of coal were imported and 150,617,881 were re-exported.
