This daily newspaper began publishing on August 14, 1904, and ended its publication on August 14, 1915, with a total of 3,218 issues. In the early years, it had eight pages and published engravings on Sundays. For some time, an English-language edition of this newspaper was published, especially for the passengers of foreign steamers arriving at the port of Funchal, with an irregular publication schedule.

It was directed by Captain J. Reis Gomes, with the main editor being Father Fernando A. Silva, and the editors being Lieutenants A. Artur Sarmento and Jaime de Campos Ramalho.

It published a considerable number of unpublished writings and valuable documents that are of great interest to the history of this archipelago.
