Guarnição de Jardim

The Madeirans give this name to various species of the genus Verbena, the most common of which is V. bonariensis, perfectly naturalized in various parts of Funchal. This species is also known by the names jarvão or urgebão and, like V. officinalis, is considered by the people to be a stimulant and tonic. It has lilac flowers arranged in spikes, and very rough, incised-serrated leaves.
