“The wife of João Gonçalves Zargo, Constança Rodrigues, as Dr. Alvaro de Azevedo says, is referred to by some as Sá, by others as Almeida; and, in fact, the house of Abrantes, from the same lineage, uses the Almeidas' coat of arms. After Constança Rodrigues, the first person we find with this surname is Amador de Almeida, to whom D. João III granted a coat of arms in 1538”.
