Gil

In the parish of Santo Antonio, there is the site of Vasco Gil, where an individual of this name, who was one of the first settlers of this island, had sesmaria lands and belonged to the number of good men of the old governance of Funchal. He was perhaps the first to use the surname Gil in this archipelago.
