History

Furtado (Diogo de Mendonça)

His appointment as governor and captain-general of Madeira dates back to December 17, 1659, and he took office on December 2, 1660.

Five days later, he went to the town hall of this city and presented the deed of donation that King D. João IV had made of this archipelago to Princess D. Catarina, so that it could be properly registered. See Donation of the island of Madeira to Infanta D. Catarina.
