Abreu (João Gomes de)

He was known by the name of João Gomes de Abreu da Ilha. He was the captain of a ship in the fleet that set sail for India in 1506. He took part in the battles against the Moors of the cities of Brava and the island of Socotra, and then went on to Cananor, where he showed extreme bravery, according to the testimony of Gaspar Correia in the Lendas da Índia.
