Freire (Francisco da Costa)

He was the governor and captain-general of this archipelago, appointed on June 6, 1724, and took office on July 27 of the same year. As the administrator of the Santa Casa, he provided excellent services to this charitable institution. He left his mark on Madeira's history with the founding of the Recolhimento das Órfãs in 1724 (see this name).
