Alincourt. (Francisco de)
He was a chief engineer, professed knight of the Order of Christ, and a lecturer at the Royal Academy. In 1769, he drew up the general map of Madeira, and in the same year, he went to Porto Santo to study the needs of that island, about which he wrote a dissertation. Arrested in 1770 as a free mason, by order of Governor João Antonio de Sá Pereira, he was soon after released and reinstated in the position he held, following instructions transmitted by the Marquis of Pombal to his delegate on this island.
