Fontes Pereira de Melo (António Maria de)

This notable Portuguese statesman visited Madeira in 1858, arriving on September 10th aboard the brig Mariana, and departing for Cape Verde on the same ship on the 26th. Fontes Pereira de Melo, who was then a lieutenant of engineering, visited the works of the Rabaçal levada.
