Ferreira Passos (José Gerardo)

On June 14, 1854, he was appointed civil governor of this district and took office on the 25th of the same month and year, also holding the position of military commander of Madeira.

He was part of the liberating army and distinguished himself remarkably in many battles. He was a division general, a peer of the realm, and held the position of Minister of War.

He was born in Elvas on November 11, 1801, and died in Lisbon on April 12, 1870.
