Alfarrobeira (Ceratonia siliqua, L.)

A tree of the Legume family, subfamily Cesalpinioideas, cultivated in some areas around Funchal. Its flowers are dioecious, and its fruits have a slightly laxative, sweet pulp with a pleasant taste. The carob trees in Madeira are of poor quality and not very pulpy. The carob tree also exists in Porto Santo.
