Geography

Ilhéu Lighthouse / Farolim do Ilhéu

It was a small fixed light beacon, with little illuminating power, which, not too long ago, was frequently called the 'ember of the islet'. It served as a reference point for the vessels heading to the port of Funchal and began operating on May 18, 1866.

It was replaced by a new lighthouse on August 1, 1931.
