D'Orsey (Alexander J. D.)

He was an Anglican chaplain and director of a college in Funchal. He authored Colloquial Portuguese, or the Words and Phrases of every day, of which there were six editions, the first in 1854 and the last in 1891, and A Practical Grammar of Portuguese and English, of which there were three editions. In this last work, he collaborated with Marceliano Ribeiro de Mendonça, rector of the Funchal lyceum.
