Cunha (Alexandre Luiz da)

He was a professor at the Lancasterian School and owner and editor of the periodicals 'o Defensor da Liberdade', 'o Defensor', and 'o Correio da Madeira'. By sentence of February 26, 1828, he served thirty days in prison for abuse of press freedom. After leaving for the United States of America that year, he then went to Brazil, only returning to Madeira after the constitutional government was restored. On September 28, 1835, he was appointed professor of French and English languages in Funchal, and later held the same position at the lyceum, by decree of September 4, 1838. He died at the Civil Hospital at the age of 49, on October 14, 1852. E.: The United States of North America in 1830 and 1831, Rio de Janeiro, 1832.
