Costa Dias (Manuel da)
Born in the parish of Ponta do Pargo on October 18, 1883, he attended the diocesan seminary, the lyceum of Funchal, the industrial institute, and the military school. He spent some time in Brazil before enrolling in the lyceum, and while a student at this educational institution, he edited the republican newspaper O Democrata. He served in Africa shortly after completing his military studies, was a lecturer at the War School, and represented Madeira in Parliament during the legislative session from 1915 to 1917. He died in Lisbon in 1930, holding the rank of Major in the Military Administration.
