Viola de arame

A wire-strung guitar played by Madeiran country people, with its tuning as reported by an amateur musician.

A musical instrument with wire strings, played only by country people. Its tuning, as we are informed by Captain Eduardo A. dos Santos Pereira, a distinguished amateur musician, is as follows: E (bass string), A, D, G, B, E (top string).

The viola de arame (wire-strung folk guitar) is an instrument much loved by country people and accompanies them on their journeys, but the sounds it produces are not very pleasing to the educated ear.
