Mullein
Original title: Verbasco
Mulleins (Verbascum thapsus, V. floccosum and V. sinuatum), whitish woolly plants known in Madeira as verbasco, whose flowers and leaves are emollient.
The plants known by this name in Madeira belong to the following species: Verbascum thapsus, V. floccosum and V. sinuatum. All these species are whitish and woolly (tomentose) and have large leaves, which are deeply cut in V. sinuatum and entire or merely toothed in V. thapsus and V. floccosum. The last of these is easily distinguished from the others by its very readily shed down. The yellow flowers and the leaves of the mulleins are emollient.
