The yew, a tree or shrub now almost extinct in Madeira's mountains, with good reddish wood and poisonous leaves.
A tree or shrub of the family Taxaceae, now almost extinct in the mountains of Madeira. It has linear leaves, dioecious flowers and seeds with a fleshy scarlet aril. It yields reddish wood of good quality, but today this is almost unknown to the island’s cabinetmakers. The leaves of the yew are poisonous. See Cadamosto.
