Rosmaninho
Explains the Madeiran name 'rosmaninho', applied to Santolina chamaecyparissus and three lavender species, all aromatic plants used in baths and rubs.
Madeirans give this name to Santolina Chamaecyparissus, a plant of the family Compositae grown in some gardens in Funchal, Camacha and Monte, and to Lavandula pedunculata, L. viridis and L. dentata, plants of the family Labiatae, the first two growing wild and the last cultivated and subspontaneous on the island. All these species are aromatic and can be used in baths and rubs; the flower heads of the santolina can be used as a tonic.
