Opah (Lampris luna)
Original title: Peixe-Cravo (Lampris luna)
The opah (Lampris luna), a brightly coloured fish rare near Madeira, caught at depth with tuna lines.
A fish of the family Scombridae, rare near Madeira, although some authors record it as common. Its brilliant colouring makes it one of the most beautiful species of the Atlantic; its body is compressed and it can reach a little over a metre. It is caught between 75 and 200 braças, generally with the tuna line. By day it stays out at sea, but at night it comes somewhat closer to the coast.
