Medina e Vasconcelos (Sérvulo de Paula)

Biography of Sérvulo de Paula Medina e Vasconcelos, son of the poet, dramatist and journalist who died in Cape Verde around 1854.

He was the son of the Madeiran poet Francisco de Paula Medina e Vasconcelos. He was born in Funchal around 1822 and went to the Cape Verde islands as a civil servant with the governor Dom José Miguel de Noronha in 1845, dying there around 1854. In Funchal in 1845 he published a drama entitled Amor e Pátria, which had been staged in this city at the Teatro Concórdia in August 1844. He was an editor of the Beija-Flôr, and around 1851 in Cape Verde he was editor of the Boletim Official, in which he published the novel Um filho chorado.
